Alex or ‘Bolty’ as he was known to all became an inspirational student to all in his five years at Salesian College. From the moment he arrived at Salesian College from Waverley Abbey he seemed at home and that he belonged. In his time at Salesian Alex achieved much academically, on the sports field and swimming pool and was a magnificent tourist on the South African cricket tour in April 2009. But perhaps his greatest gift was his sincere, warm and engaging personality, which hid to those that did not know him his competitive personality on the sports field and academically - this linked with his huge desire to win and be successful. Throughout Alex’s battle with his illness he was courageous, humble and brave until the end and a huge inspiration to all. One of my last conversations with Alex was to tell him he needed to go home and rest after a tiring Friday morning at school, to which he replied ‘ok Sir I will but I shall see you on Monday and I will return to the cricket field soon’ – this summed Alex up, an amazing young man who will be missed by so many. Our loss is definitely heaven’s gain. I am sure Alex has already taken a hat-trick on the cricket field since he was ‘called home’ taking the scalps of Don Bradman, WG Grace and Malcolm Marshall… RIP Alex Mr C :-)
